Chicken Basics: How to Cook Each Different Cut

Chicken is one of the most popular types of meat, and that’s why there are so many different chicken products available for buying and cooking. Therefore, learning about the different cuts we can get and how to cook each of them can be really helpful, as it will allow us to take advantage of the characteristics of each cut, and prepare truly delicious and memorable dishes every time.

Some of the most popular chicken parts available include chicken breasts, chicken wings, thighs, drumsticks, and fillets. Each part and cut are sold in many different ways, whether they are sold frozen or fresh, pre-seasoned and ready to cook, even cooked and breaded. SO, you need to think about what you are looking for and choose your chicken accordingly.

Chicken breasts are the most popular cuts, and thus they are sold in many different ways. You can find fresh and frozen breasts, and they may come as whole breasts, quarters, and halves, depending on how much you want to cook. Also, you can buy breasts that come with bones, boneless breasts, with skin or skinless, and breaded or unbreaded, depending on the type of dish you will prepare. As if it were not enough, you can also buy breasts already seasoned with lemon pepper, BBQ, and Italian flavors.

Another quite popular cut is chicken wings, which have become one of the favorite snacks at bars and restaurants around the world. Just like chicken breasts, you can find wings cooked, fully uncooked, breaded and unbreaded. Also, you can find them already marinated, barbecued, or glazed, as well as seasoned with different flavorings. Chicken wings are so popular because they offer a wide range of flavors and hotness, including barbecue, Dijon, teriyaki, all coming with a mild to extra hot spice.

A very tasty and juicy part of the chicken that, for some reason, doesn’t get the praise it should, chicken thighs are tender cuts that take longer to cook than other chicken cuts. This dark meat cut can come with bones in or boneless, and with the skin or skinless. Thighs have firmer texture than breasts, so they are great to cook tandoor style kebabs, or pairing them with spiced Indian potatoes.

If we are looking for cheap, easy to cook, and kid friendly chicken parts, we should look at drumsticks. They are great to be cooked at barbecues, as they are simple yet delicious pieces of chicken that both kids and adults can enjoy. Drumsticks go great with curry sauces too, in case you’re looking for something spicy and interesting. You can buy them on the bone and cook them without much washing up.

Last but not least, we have chicken fillets, which is a sliced cut from the breasts. This cut is widely available in many different forms, such as uncooked, fully cooked, breaded, unbreaded, and seasoned with different flavors and spices. The best part about fillets is that you can cook them in a many different ways, making plenty of healthy recipes to dine on. Whether you feel like cooking something spicy, filled with pasta, stuffed with a creamy mince, or marinated with sauce, chicken fillets are the cut to go.
