Chicken Burritos Will Be Everyone’s Favorite Weeknight Dinner Meal

One of the most popular and classic Mexican dishes are burritos, delicious tortilla wraps filled with a wide variety of ingredients set to delight our palates with as many flavors and textures as we want. Now, during the last couple of years, chicken burritos have become incredibly popular, in part because of their tasty flavor, in part to the flexibility of the dish, as we can have them as breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Even when chicken burritos are not the fanciest of dishes, there is no denying that they are a great option that both children and adults alike enjoy anytime, anywhere.

Besides offering a lot of flexibility when it comes to the ingredients we need, chicken burritos are also quite simple and easy to prepare. It takes no more than 30 minutes to have a whole set of burritos ready to be served, taking 10 minutes of prep time and somewhere around 20 minutes of cooking time. Besides, this Mexican classic doesn’t require as many ingredients as you may think. Here’s a short list of some of the most important ingredients:

In order to make the best chicken burritos we can, we need to make sure we are using skinless and boneless chicken breasts and cutting them into small pieces. This will help us even the amount of meat we put in each burrito. We also need to add chopped onion, minced garlic, olive oil, ½ tablespoon of chili powder, 1 tsp of cumin, chopped tomatoes, kidney beans preferably, but any bean medley will do, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped jalapeño, and don’t forget about getting enough tortillas for everyone.

As you might have guessed, the very first step is to cook the chicken. Using a large skillet, heat the olive oil and then cook the chicken breasts until they are not pink anymore. Next, you will add as much onion and garlic as you consider appropriate, depending on your taste, and stir it all up. Feel free to season the meat using salt, pepper, chili powder, and cumin. Keep cooking the chicken for no longer than 5 minutes and then set the skillet aside.

Now we are ready to start assembling the burritos. Take 1/3 or 1/2 cup of chicken mixture and put it in the middle of the tortilla. Top it with cheddar cheese, add the rest of the ingredients, and roll up the tortilla, making sure it doesn’t open. If you want to be absolutely certain, use a couple of toothpicks to secure the burrito. We want to make sure that we heat up the cheese enough so it melts, so put your burritos under a broiler and heat them up for a couple of minutes.

Once the cheese has melted and the tortilla is looking golden and crisp, take your burritos and serve them with your favorite salsa or sour cream. Feel free to add as many ingredients as you want, keeping in mind how the flavor and the texture of the burrito will change as you go. Also, make sure the tortilla will be able to hold your favorite ingredients inside without giving in to the weight of your mix.
