Have you ever wondered if nachos are a salad? After all, all the ingredients are there, including a dressing and If so, then this blog post is for you! It’s time to settle the “are nachos a salad?” debate one and for all. Let’s take a look at the evidence.
Are Nachos a Salad?
In order to determine if nachos qualify as salad, we must first understand what a salad is. As always, let’s turn to the trusty Merriam Webster dictionary for answers. Their definition of salad reads as follows: “Any of various usually cold dishes: such as: a) raw greens (such as lettuce) often combined with other vegetables and toppings and served especially with dressing. b) small pieces of food (such as pasta, meat, fruit, or vegetables) usually mixed with a dressing (such as mayonnaise) or set in gelatin.”
Which brings us to the nacho question: do nachos qualify as a salad since they feature a topping as explained in definition a)? After all, nachos also include “small pieces of food,” as stated in definition b).
Certainly, there’s an argument to be made that nachos are a salad. Nachos have many points in common with salad, as evidenced by the definitions above. However, we believe that there’s a key difference at the very base of a definition of salad. Merriam Webster notes that “salad” refers to “Any of various usually cold dishes.” We believe that this is the basic differences between salads and nachos: salads are served cold, while nachos are meant to be enjoyed while they’re still warm.
So there you have it—the verdict is out! We believe that nachos are NOT a salad, but a hot dish.
In any case, one thing’s for sure—no matter what label you give them, nachos are definitely tasty! So go ahead and enjoy your favorite snack without worrying too much about semantics and food categories. Bon appetit!
